Performance, Consolidation, and Google Search Ranking Improvements for a Global Organization
Once we paid off their technological debt by consolidating varied and aging content management systems, we were able to position The Gospel Coalition for growth.
The Gospel Coalition
The Gospel Coalition, or TGC, is a network of “broadly Reformed” evangelical churches founded in 2005 by Christian pastors/theologians D. A. Carson and Tim Keller. The mission of TGC is to encourage and educate “current and next-generation” Christian leaders by advocating “gospel-centered principles and practices.”
With over 2.5 million unique visitors per month performance was paramount. Yet, TGC had been experiencing considerably slow loading rates and overall poor performance issues. In addition, they were not ranking well on major search engines such as Google and Yahoo.
They needed to eliminate their digital waste, increase their speeds, better handle the massive amount of assets, and greatly improve their competitive ranking on search engines. And that’s exactly what we accomplished for them.
We consolidated their varied and aging content management systems into a simplified, manageable solution. We modernized their server infrastructure by load balancing multiple web servers while offloading podcasts and images to a CDN.
We converted their multinational sites into single WordPress multisite installations. The end result is a single codebase supporting 12 editions, 10 languages and numerous editors.
We launched them ahead of their major competitors on their targeted search engines. As such, they are regularly ranking on the first page of Google for their targeted keywords.
Talking numbers, the overall result was a cost savings of 50%, page load times of < 700 ms (nearly as fast as the blink of an eye), and first page Google search ranking on more than 500 keywords and phrases.
